Rafael Rodríguez Padilla, born on January 23, 1890, was a multifaceted Guatemalan artist excelling in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. In 1920, he co-founded and became the first director of the Guatemalan Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes, which later merged into the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas “Rafael Rodríguez Padilla,” named in his honor. His leadership significantly influenced the development of fine arts education in Guatemala.
