Elmar Rojas (1942–2018):
Elmar René Rojas Azurdia was a Guatemalan painter and architect. He studied art in Guatemala, Spain, France, and Italy, which influenced his unique style that blends magical realism with social commentary. Rojas was instrumental in founding Guatemala’s Ministry of Culture and served as its first minister. His paintings often depict dreamlike scenes that reflect the complexities of Guatemalan society.
